Sport Injury and Arthroscopic Surgery Center of Excellence (SIASCOE)
SIASCOE (Sports Injury and Arthroscopic Surgery Centre of Excellence) is a niche area provided by the Sports Unit of HPUPM’s Orthopaedic Department.
Its aim is to provide surgical and non-surgical treatment in all types of sports injury and certain degenerative conditions. Surgical treatments include arthroscopic or key-hole surgical treatment in various parts of the body such as the shoulder, elbow, hip, knee and ankle.
Common conditions treated by our unit:
ACL, PCL and multi-ligamentous knee injuries
Cartilage injuries of the knee including patellofemoral pain syndrome
Hip degenerative conditions, FAI (femoro-acetabular impingement) and labral tear
We offer treatment to recreational and professional athletes in terms of prevention and treatment following injury. We also manage degenerative shoulder conditions in middle aged and elderly patients.
We work closely with Sports Physicians in providing pre-rehabilitation (pre-hab) and post-operative rehabilitation to optimise outcomes. We are currently in the process of starting collaboration with the National Sports Institute (ISN) to manage sport injuries among their athletes.
We aim to incorporate safe and effective treatment in accordance with our principles of practising evidence-based medicine and conducting ‘patient-orientated’ research.
